... and then Practice

Sailing courses are run twice a year for novice sailors to learn to
sail. The course follows the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) syllabus for levels
1&2. Successful course members are awarded an RYA certificate.
There are six
theory evenings from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Wednesday.
Each is followed by a Saturday morning or Saturday
afternoon practical session lasting approximately three hours. |
As soon as you know the bow from the stern, well help you get
ready for sailing. Then its onto the water in one of the clubs GP14 dinghies. |
You
will be taught the basic skills of sailing, both on and off the water. The syllabus
includes rigging & launching dinghies, safety & basic first aid, capsize and
recovery, sail setting and basic steering and navigation. |

It
is the best way into our sport and can lead to competition at the highest levels or just
safe family cruising. |

The sailing is supervised at all times. Instructors, who are
all RYA qualified, will accompany you at all times, initially in the same boat.

Never Far Away
Buoyancy aids will be supplied
for all attendees but you should be prepared by wearing lightweight, warm clothing and an
old pair of trainers, as well as a bringing a change of clothing in case you get wet.
The sailing course costs
£100 for adults and £40 for under 18s. Course members who
subsequently join the
club are entitled to a reduction in their first years fee. |
