GDSC Junior Newsletter August 2006

Friday Nights

After another successful season, and our continuation at Pennine Sailing Club, the last Friday night session on the water will be on Friday 25 August.

There will be an On Shore session at GDSC on Friday 1 September to end the season.

We are hoping to organise some further RYA assessments (to be confirmed) and will use this session to go through the shore based knowledge and skills.

Junior Race Events

We will be holding 3 Junior Race events in September.

Saturday 9 September: Optimist Trophy and Junior Trophy

Saturday 30 September: Fennel (Topper) Trophy

The Junior Trophy is for all Junior members, except those entering the Optimist Trophy (you can’t enter both!)

The Fennel (Topper) Trophy is open to any Junior who can sail a boat on their own in a race.

For all three events you can use your own boat or the club equipment which will be available on a strict booking system (see below).

There will be an entrance fee of £3.00 for each event.

All races will start on the water at 12.00 noon, so you will need to have your boat rigged by 11.30 am to be ready for a briefing. There will be a break for lunch with 2 more races in the afternoon. Races are likely to be on a triangular course and last about 45 minutes, depending on the conditions.

To book equipment you should contact Viki and Tim. Boats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, with priority given to Juniors who do not have their own boat.

Lunch / safety: we would appreciate help from parents - please let us know if you can help.

Junior Prizegiving and Celebration – more details to follow.

Southport 12 hour race June 2006

Congratulations to the Glossop team, and coordination by Tim Dobson.

They managed to overcome considerable obstacles to get and keep the boat on the water, and achieve a worthy result.
