1. Glossop Regatta - Date Change

Due to a clash with Javelin & ISO events, this has been moved to August 17/18/19.

Friday afternoon/evening - Family Fun &

"Pro-Am Racing"; BBQ & social event.

Saturday & Sunday - Fleet & Handicap Open Racing; BBQ & social events.

2. Extraordinary General Meeting

Mailed with the news letter is an invitation to review and endorse the Development Plan at the club house on the 31/3/01 . We need your input, just turn up for a coffee and chat, then tinker with your boat or even go sailing.

3. GP 14 North West Championships

Thanks to Andy and Caroline Monk and last year's successful  GP Open at Glossop, the GP 14 Association has been persuaded by the Monks to hold their North West Championships at Glossop this year on

May 12th  & 13 th.

This is one of the region's most prestigious events, with 60 + boats expected to enter. If you own a GP, dust it down and experience taking part in such an event.

The training boats (GP14’s) will also be available for those wanting to have a go. Any experienced helm who is willing to enter a training boat with an inexperienced crew will have their entrance fee paid by the club. All arrangements must be agreed first by Roger Tolman.

It is our intention to make this event as successful as possible, so that in the future other Fleets will consider Glossop as the place to hold their premier events.

On the Saturday evening there will be a BBQ, disco and much merriment which all members are invited to attend.

Many smaller jobs need to be done - see over for the list - we need help from YOU.

4. Club House Improvements

Yet again, Colin Hesketh’s "volunteers" have made great strides this year.

Already, radiators (yes - central heating!) have been installed into the main room of the club house, the entrance has been painted, plus the ladies showers have been improved (a flow rather than a trickle).

Preparations are in place for the installation of a second new generator, the wash hand-basin is in place in the Bar, and extra land drainage has been installed (even in a blizzard – trust me I know) to extend the rigging area.

Plans are being prepared to improve the Galley/Bar area to make the club more attractive to non-sailors & families.

Come and have look (and brew some tea or coffee), but beware, if you stay longer than ½ hour you may get a paint brush thrust in your hand.

5. Dragon Pursuit

The Dragon Pursuit is on April 22nd.

This is an excellent event , especially for those club members thinking about their first (semi-serious) racing event.

Don’t be put off if you think your racing experience may not be Olympic standard, there’s no better place to start racing than your own club. Honestly, nobody’s watching, have a go.

6. Training Courses

The RYA Level 1/2 course will start on

May 16th, and is already 50% booked.

Are you aged 12 to 18?  Can you sail?

If so, why not become a Youth Trainer or Assistant Instructor?

Contact Roger Tolman for either of these opportunities.

7. High Peak Trophy

Combs Sailing Club is the venue for this event in 2001, on April 21st.

A top class team is needed to defend the honour of GDSC. Please contact Tim Snellgrove for further details.
