GDSC Newsletter January 2001
Contents
Great news at last, after many years of
negotiation, the club has received 50% rebate
from both the High Peak (Rates) and North West Water (Rent). The money
represents the equivalent of 30 new members, and will be used to improve the
club’s infrastructure. Many thanks must go to executive members past and
present particularly Dave Robertson and
Jim Dormand for their resilience to achieve this rebate when the
Authorities were not always forthcoming.
It is our intention to convince the Authorities
that the rebate should continue for at least five years so the saving can be
planned into the Clubs budget.
Many thanks must go to the organisers of the
Dinner Dance, which was another resounding success. Adrian Sandilands seemed to
be particularly pleased with his trophy haul and steps are being taken to
assist him in getting his haul home next year (anyone with a large van please
contact the Editor).
The new Commodore Tim Snellgrove presented Steve
Tinsley with a memento from the members in thanks for all his efforts as
Commodore over the years. Steve is now Rear Commodore.
After the most successfully run Junior Nights,
John Mather has agreed to run them again this year. John brought great fun to
the evenings, which on some nights had eighteen juniors attending. We hope to
build on last year’s success, but would welcome help from any members willing
to forfeit a couple of hours to assist. Assistance could be given just
launching, taking names, making cups of tea etc, If you’re interested call
John, Tim Snellgrove or Dave Burke.
Fancy being Junior Fleet Captain? As Fleet Captain
you would have to be under the age of 18, have an input into how the junior
club is run, organise your troops, keep them informed in what the club can
offer them, even write your own editorial in the newsletter. Interested? Call
John, Tim Snellgrove or Dave Burke.
So that this Years Major Events are a success it has been decided that each event should have an Event organiser. The organiser will plan each Event, using the Catering and Social Committee members’ experience so that the workload can be spread evenly.
a) Working Parties (Weekends from January27th through to March 25th) -
Don’t be shy, we all have some jobs at home to do during the winter months, but
sparing a couple of hours to help at the club would be most useful.
b) Duty Roster - Take advantage that the Roster is now up in the club
house for those members who prefer to choose, rather than have someone else
choose the dates for you. Please note that each member should volunteer for at
least 3 duties throughout the year.
c) Golden Boot - Please keep your eyes open from the start of
the season for good candidates for the Golden Boot Award, the more bizarre the
better.
