Glossop Dragon Pursuit
The
Millennium Glossop Dragon Pursuit, sponsored by Mailspeed
Marine, was held in tricky, Southerly winds on Sunday 16th of
April. Prizes totalling £250 were on offer, with the lead
boat guaranteed £120. The
day started bright with light easterly winds pushing the first
starters around the course set by Race Officer Tony Woodyer but
these faded as the Lasers and Scorpions started. The
high-performance twin-trapeze boats suffered immediately, having
given up to 60 minutes on handicap and having no wind to speak
of.
The
RS400 of ex-Glossop sailor Tony Woods, crewed by Ian Fletcher,
progressed steadily through the fleet, closely followed by S.
Marsh & E. Marsh in another RS400. The Javelins of
Dixon / Dixon and Partington / Tinsley threatened to make it a
close finish but the RS400's held on for a class one-two.
Local
Scorpions had declared this event as one of their Northern
circuit and the fine turn-out of 6 boats from the fleet which
attended the Glossop Scorpion Open event the previous weekend
meant some close racing for them and Woodhead / Hannabus turned
in their usual excellent performance, coming 3rd.
The
day was complete for local Comet sailor Tony Thomas when a mild
gust propelled him past but within smirking distance of a
becalmed RS800. The lone sailboard bravely battled the leg
strain of 2+ hours standing on a plank and all enjoyed the day
out. Special congratulations go to 2 Javelins who
travelled from Norfolk to compete.
Next
year we hope to have our usual f4 after two years of very light
winds.
